Kyoko Funabashi, M.Ed., NCC, LCMHCA is passionate about working with individuals who are experiencing stress, depression, trauma, transitional life issues, low self-esteem, and other emotional barriers. Kyoko has a special interest in providing services to teenagers and adults, with an emphasis on the female population. Kyoko’s primary approach to counseling is an integration of solution-focused, mindfulness-based, and cognitive-behavioral therapies. This integrative counseling approach strives to balance mindful awareness, a genuine and empathic relationship with the Wellness Partner. This process is a collaborative effort between the therapist and Wellness Partner, identifying what initial changes one could work towards to minimize emotional and behavioral disturbances in their current life.
Kyoko has worked with several individuals, parents, and families in overcoming a variety of issues such as substance abuse and dealing with daily life challenges. Kyoko has worked closely with at-risk youth dealing with concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and family hardships. She has also provided counseling services at a crisis center helping women experiencing and/or recovering from domestic violence and other traumatic situations. No matter where she is serving, her passion is always to teach practical ways to manage stress and trauma symptoms, learn healthy coping mechanisms, and ultimately offer empowerment for others.
Kyoko completed her internship at the Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC) where she provided services to individuals and couples that focused on healthy personal, emotional, social, and career development. Kyoko received her B.S. in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University. She then attended NC State University where she received a certificate in Counselor Education and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Kyoko has also gained certification as a Trauma Professional equipping her to help her Wellness Partners heal from the inside out. She has the heart to enhance clinical skills by attending professional training often. She offers her Wellness Partners the best! When Kyoko is not in session or doing additional training, she spends her time in nature, hiking, reading, drawing, traveling, and enjoying time with her daughter. She is ready to meet you where you are, and to help you start writing the next chapter of your life.
